You can purchase items from various Chinese platforms such as Taobao, 1688, JD, AliExpress, Pinduoduo, and others, or from offline suppliers and factories. We take care of receiving products you ordered, inspection, and international shipping to South Africa.
To get started, please register an account on our website to receive your personal warehouse code and our China warehouse address. When checking out, make sure to use this address along with your warehouse code as the receipt address. If you're working with an offline seller, ask them to deliver to this address so that our warehouse team can identify you as the parcel owner.
Once your parcel arrives at our warehouse, we will manage the international shipping and ensure it reaches your address in South Africa. After placing your order, please add your parcel to our system for tracking and management. Here’s a step-by-step guide to assist you.
Important Reminder: Before purchasing from your supplier, please inform us about the type of cargo. Some products may be classified as sensitive or dangerous, or could be linked to internationally registered brands. We will provide guidance and help you find an appropriate shipping solution in advance.
Understanding Your Costs ① Product Cost — Item price + seller's domestic shipping to our warehouse (some sellers offer free shipping). Both are settled when you place your order. ② International Shipping — After your items arrive at our warehouse in China, we'll notify you to pay the international freight. 🧮Estimate shipping → In terms of local delivery cost from our South Africa Warehouse to your address, we give customer option either pick up from our warehouse with free of charge, or we deliver with courier service at customers cost.
1. Estimate your freight cost before sending goods using our freight calculator. 2. Get your personal warehouse code from your dashboard — include it in the recipient name when sending goods to our China warehouse. 3. Submit a parcel declaration on this platform before or after your goods are sent, so you can manage and track your parcel's movement, here is the step to step guidance.
To begin, we suggest customer to check the shipping costs on our homepage using the freight calculator available on our website. This tool will provide you with the total cost and options for both air and sea freight. To manage your parcel and track the entire shipping process, please register an account on our website to obtain your personal warehouse code and our China warehouse address. Once you've finalized your arrangements with your supplier, please ask your supplier to include this code in the receipt address when they send parcel to our China warehouse, so that our warehouse team can identify you as the owner of the parcel. After parcel arrive at the warehouse, we will take care of the international shipping and ensure it is delivered to your address in South Africa.

You can find the details using our freight calculator, as shown in the home page https://chinaship.co.za/, or https://chinaship.co.za/freight-calculator/. For small quantity or weight parcels, we recommend opting for air freight. A good practice is to purchase multiple items and send them to our warehouse. You can then choose to ship some or all of them, and we will pack them according to your instructions. This approach will help reduce shipping costs, as multiple items can be consolidated into a single box instead of shipping each item separately, leading to a difference in total weight.
Our main service is DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), we handle all transport, and customs clearance—including paying all import duties and taxes. In terms of local delivery cost from our South Africa Warehouse in Midrand to your address, we give customer option either pick up from our warehouse with free of charge, or we deliver through local courier service at customer's cost. For very heavy cargo, we suggest customer to arrange truck to pick up from our warehouse, or we quote the costs and deliver at customers costs.
We suggest customer to log in to their account and add the items they purchased, and want to deliver to their final home address. (Note: If you used our Buy from China service to order items, please do not declare those parcels here. We handle everything on your behalf — your items will automatically appear in your warehouse once they arrive). How to add your parcels? If your seller has provided a tracking number from the courier service, kindly add that during the process of submission. This will allow you to check the parcel's status at any time. Our team will inspect the items and send you a photo report once the parcel arrives at our warehouse. 1. Log in your account, go to “My Dashboard”, for example, here is customer's “My Dashboard”. If you have not gotten a tracker number from your seller, you can simply click "Auto Generate" to get a unique number for the parcel you are declaring in our system. We will use that number to manage the shipping process for your parcel. After you input parcel information here, just click the button to submit, our team will update the parcel status in next, for example when parcel arrive at our warehouse, you will see the inbound photos and other info update. You may repeat the sample process whenever you got more parcels wanting to send our warehouse. This process will enable us to know there are some parcels that are coming to our warehouse and know you are the owner of the parcels. You will see the photos when log in and click the "Track" button, and receive email as well when the parcel status is updated. Some customers who know our process well, they just keep buying and sending to our warehouse, then declare the parcels when they got time to do so, we suggest to declare parcels info timely, that will also help you to manage your parcel in a good way. Where to add your final delivery address? You may add your home address here any time when you log in your account.
Forwarding fees are calculated based on chargeable weight (the greater of actual weight vs. volumetric weight). Air freight is billed per kg; sea freight is billed per CBM. Minimum charges apply. Use our freight calculator for an instant estimate. Total Cost of Forwarding = International Shipping Fee + Customs Fee
Please log in your account and click "Dashboard", go to "Declare a Parcel" and add your tracking number and order details as soon as possible. We will match your parcel manually. To avoid delays, always pre-declare your parcels on this platform before shipping.

Air freight: Chargeable weight = MAX (actual weight, volumetric weight). Volumetric weight = L x W x H (cm) divided by 6000. Sea freight: Chargeable CBM = MAX (actual CBM, weight divided by 500). Minimum 0.5 CBM for sea.
South Africa applies VAT (15%) and customs duty on imported goods. The duty-free threshold for personal imports is R500. We cannot guarantee that your parcel will not be subject to duty — this is at the discretion of SARS customs.
Like any other country, whenever you are importing products from China, you need to pay the customs duty to the South African government ranging from 0 (free) up to 60%. The customs department has tariffs following by the HS codes related to each product or goods category, which is necessary to pay by the importer.
For example, if you’re importing women’s suits from China, you will have to pay 40% customs duty. That means, if the final value of your import is around 1,000 ZAR, so by adding the customs duty, the total cost will be 1,400 ZAR.
While you can explore the entire tariff list on the SARS official website to know the import duties from China to South Africa. Here are a few goods along with their customs duty for your understanding.
Women Jackets
Tariff code: 6104.31 Material: Wool, cotton, synthetic fibers, or other material Customs duty: 45% per unit Men Overcoats
Tariff code: 6101.20 Material: Cotton, man-made fibers, or other materials Customs duty: 40% per unit Worn Clothing – Car Coats, Raincoats, Etc.
Tariff code: 6309.00.13 Material: Any fabric material Customs duty: 60% per kilogram Toilet Paper
Tariff code: 4818.10 Material: Paper Customs duty: 20% per kilogram Contrarily, there are many several goods on which the customs duty is zero or free, like:
Natural honey: 0410.00.10
Fresh sweet potatoes: 0714.20.20
Human hair/used to manufacture article hairpieces: 0501.00
Coffee Arabica/ unroasted and not decaffeinated: 0901.11.10
Milk and cream/ without additional sugar or sweetening material: 0401.10.07
Calculating Customs Duty in South Africa
The customs duty on imported goods in South Africa also includes:
Anti-dumping and countervailing duties Value- added tax (VAT) That means, if the customs duty of any product is 20% in the tariff list, you will also have to add the anti-dumping duties (if applicable on your imported goods) and the VAT.
Example: If You Are Importing Women Jackets from China to South Africa
Imagine you are importing into South Africa 100 pieces of women’s jackets from China. Each unit costs around 10 ZAR, making 10,000 ZAR as the total goods value. The anti-dumping duty is 0 and the VAT is 15%. Here’s what your overall customs duty would be:
Customs Duty = Goods Value in ZAR × Customs Duty as mentioned in the tariff list + Goods Value in ZAR × 10% (goods is from non-BLNS countries*) Customs Duty = 10,000 ZAR × 45% + 10,000 ZAR × 10% Customs Duty = 5,500 ZAR * where the origin of such goods is from non-BLNS countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, and Eswatini), the goods are subject to an upliftment of the VAT value by a factor of 10%, in the calculation of VAT payable at the time of clearance into the Republic of South Africa.
It means the customs duty without VAT is 5,500 ZAR.
Now, let’s calculate the value-added tax.
Value-added tax = (Goods Value + Customs Duty) × 15% Value-added tax = (10,000 + 5,500) × 15% Value-added tax = 2325 ZAR It means you have to pay 2,325 ZAR as a value-added tax
So the total duty including customs duty and VAT on importing 100 units of women jackets at a total price of 10,000 ZAR will be 2325 + 5500 = 7825 ZAR.
Note: SARS announced on 8 August 2024 a phased approach to amending the current customs duty system. Currently, local retailers pay 45% customs duties and 15% VAT on imported goods. However, imported items worth less than ZAR500 are exempted from VAT and pay a flat rate of 20% in customs duties.
We offer inspection services (standard inspection, power-on test, sample inspection, photo) and packaging services (bubble wrap, foam protection, moisture-proof bag, custom box, stretch film, and more).
For parcels over 30kg, oversized items, or special requirements not covered by standard routes, we offer custom logistics solutions via sea or air freight. Contact customer service to request a custom quote.
